  • Because of this movie, whenever I see any parachutists drop, this music plays in my head.

  • @tharos Me too.

  • Thanks for posting this. I was taken to this movie when I was 5 (in 1976), and I do believe it left and indelible mark on me...

  • @doublemandala You're welcome. Classic war movies always left a mark on people... they have something that I don't see in nowaday's war movies, I don't know what is it but when a child I saw Where Eagles Dare... And I loved it.

  • @TheUnforgivenRebel To me it seems that classic war movie heroes behave most of the times knightly . Not like today's war movies where they shoot everyone up without a cause . The German paratrooper for example dies to save a little girl .

  • @LockAndLoadp Nowadays if you see some modern warfare movie those ones about SEALs or Special Forces, you'll see most of them have no ethic at all (but they are proffesionals, aren't they?) and it seems to be pretty badass. Not to me.

  • I read the book and saw the film and I both enjoyed them. But what I like about the film is that it can help you visualize the characters, when you are reading the book. I think Donald Pleasance really looks like Himmler. What I like about the book is the fact that Jack Higgins doesn't potray the Germans as the usual evil people. In reality, they were too humans. The soldiers had to fight and kill just like any other soldiers. I think the best characters are Liam Devlin and Oberst Steiner.

  • @bernardcz92 Yes-Devlin is a wonderful character piece. I also have an uncle in Belfast but he hasn't passed on his bare-knuckle boxing skills to me yet.

  • @tharos Haha where do you live then? Arnhem in 1944? I see parachutists drop every day

  • @TheUnforgivenRebel So very true.

  • a moovie that my dad made me see very young , i loved and was sad for the german.

  • I don't know why, but I actually like Colonel Steiner.

  • lalo schifrin, he's a real legend...

  • @tharos LOL! I thought I was the only one.

  • Donald Sutherland a rubbish actor

  • i have the book and the film and have always loved it for me the interesting thing about the story is the way that jack higgins humanizes the germans it is because of the courage of one of the germans that the whole mission goes haywire when he gives his life to save a little girl whos fallen in a watermill.

  • It's just so brilliantly implausible, so epicly underrated...with Donald Sutherland, Michael Caine and Donald Pleasence! Good god, why haven't I been able to record this from the start!
