Finished at last! I'm happy to at last be editing with emotion again. My last vid was resuming said editing, and this one proves to me that I'm getting back into the swing of things. ^w^ ~♥
Anyway, this is my entry for the final round of the 2010 Wishes Contest, hosted by Yunarella. Before I get into the details of the vid, I want to say that, in all honesty, I've enjoyed being in this contest. Shakespeare, I may not be so big on, but mixing Shakespeare's works into my video editing has indeed been a joy. So I'm very glad that I've been a participant of this contest, no brown-nosing here. :3 Also, don't be hard on yourself, Yunarella. It's all right to make your auditions complicated; you know what you're looking for. I like making mine that way, too. XD
Again, not brown-nosing. I'm dead serious, those are my feelings.
Onto the vid details! This is actually version #3 of my entry. I liked my first one, but I didn't think I could pull it off properly without full knowledge of the footage I wanted to use. So I created a second version, which used a different song, idea, and footage. Again I liked it, but not as much as the first. So I tried making ANOTHER version. And lo and behold, this was created. I honestly enjoyed working on this video, and I hope that shows through.
Thought process:
-Chose my favorite Shakespearean work: A Midsummer Night's Dream.
-There are so many things about AMND that I like, that I decided to choose the song first and see what I could get out of it.
-Chose a song, and figured out how to mix the lyrics with the story of AMND.
-Chose characters to play the parts I needed.
-Temporarily mourned the fact that I went the depressing route instead of the play's lighthearted route, but then went, "Oh well, I still like the result ♥".
Allow me to explain: This video is from Hermia's POV, as reading the story back in high school, I felt bad for her. She was in love with Lysander, but her father (Egeus) was trying to force her to marry Demetrius (whom she didn't love), Demetrius was in love with her and constantly pursuing her, she confided a secret to her best friend (Helena) who went and told Demetrius on her, Helena was jealous of Demetrius's affection for Hermia, and due to confusion, Lysander temporarily chased after Helena and abandoned Hermia. If there was a real "victim" in the play, I believe it was Hermia. Mixing the lyrics of my chosen song with the story of AMND, I ended up with a young Hermia writing a letter to her older self, the Hermia we know during the actual events of AMND.
To avoid confusion, let me lay out the cast:
-Marlene - young Hermia
-Denzel - young Lysander
-Yuna - Hermia
-Tidus - Lysander
-Rikku - Helena
-Shuyin - Demetrius
-Seymour - Egeus
Note #1: I used Seymour instead of Braska for Yuna's father because there really isn't any good footage for Braska.
Note #2: Shuyin does NOT represent Tidus in this video, as the cast list shows.
Note #3: In the case of Denzel becoming Tidus, just pretend he left for some southern island for many years and dyed his hair. Yeah...
Note #4: Even though AMND doesn't have their relationship as such, the story in this vid has it that Lysander and Hermia met as children.
Note #5: Every scene of Tidus and Yuna (not Denzel and Marlene) running is from when they decided to elope.
And finally, to summarize for those of you who don't know AMND or can tell what's going on, here's the basic breakdown:
-Marlene is a younger Yuna.
-Denzel is a younger Tidus.
-Marlene/Yuna and Denzel/Tidus are in love with each other.
-Seymour is Yuna's father who wants her to marry Shuyin.
-Yuna and Rikku are best friends.
-Shuyin is in love with Yuna, but she doesn't love him.
-Rikku is in love with Shuyin and is jealous of Yuna.
I'm very certain that covers everything minus the usual listing of song, artist, and footage. So, ta-daa! :3
EDIT: This is now also my audition for Bittersweet Illusions Studios. If I make it in, I would like to be either Lucrecia, Lulu, or Minerva.
