Tippet isn't added to fly fishing line, but it is attached to leaders with an improved surgeon's knot. Learn about tying tippets to leaders, tightening and reducing friction with help from an experienced fly fisherman in this free video on fly fishing equipment.

  • @yankeeschampsx27 Thanks bro, big help.

  • Nippers!

  • @yankeeschampsx27 alright paerfect thanks again!

  • @usmc11able no, if you have a looped leader then u need to put leader loops on the tip of your fly line, or have a loop tied in the tip of your fly line at your local fly fishing or tackle shop. if it is not a looped leader or looped fly line, and you do not wish to add loops to either you could use the nail knot, but it is very difficult to tie, and makes it difficult to change leaders, as you need to tie it each time. i would recommend getting leader loops for your fly line and looped leaders.

  • @yankeeschampsx27 lol one more question, is useing a tripple overhand knot work for connecting the fly line to the fly leader

  • @usmc11able no prob msg me on here if you have any more questions i can maybe help u with... see ya

  • @yankeeschampsx27 alright that is acctually really helpful thankyou very much man!

  • @usmc11able i wouldn't because typically you would buy leaders individually packaged, as i do, from my friend who has his own hand tied leader company, and leaders are typically, and should be tapered down to a thinner point on the end, and much thicker toward the beginning. the point of tippet is that is so thin it is very hard for the fish to see it. to sum up, you should use tippets interchangably depending on thickness instead of wasting leader material.

  • @yankeeschampsx27 hey is tippet absoloutly essential or can you just use the normal leader and tie directly to that

  • @Oggie1232 don't sweat it. i'm 15 and i've only been fly fishing about a month now. tippet is usually lighter than leader material, and tippets should be interchanged based on size of the fly. you should keep your leader on at all times (as you progress, you may want to switch between a wet or dry leader depending if you are dry flying or nymphing), but switch tippet sizes based on hook size. this is assuming you understand tippet sizes, of course. message me or reply if you need more help.
