A nice track from Paul's first album. McCartney wrote the song in 1969, just before The Beatles' break-up. He credited his wife Linda with helping him get through the difficult time.

Although most of his debut solo album was recorded at his farm in Scotland, McCartney recorded "Maybe I'm Amazed" entirely in EMI's Number Two studio in Abbey Road in London, where he was mixing the rest of the tracks. He played all the instruments: guitars, piano, organ and drums.

Even though Paul declined to release the song as a single in 1970 (but a live version from Wings was released as a single seven years later), it nonetheless received a great deal of radio airplay worldwide, making it one of his most recognisable solo successes. A promotional film was made (which is on YouTube), comprising still photographs of McCartney, his wife Linda and stepdaughter Heather.

Regarded as one of McCartney's finest love songs, it achieved the number 338 position in the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" list compiled by Rolling Stone magazine in November 2004, and is the only solo McCartney song to make the list. Shortly after the album's release, George Harrison described this track and "That Would Be Something" as "great", and regarded the other tracks as "fair". In a late 2009 Q&A with journalists held in London to promote his live album Good Evening New York City, McCartney said "Maybe I'm Amazed" was "the song he would like to be remembered for in the future".

  • @JoeOrber oh wait. you have to change the needle every few thousand hours of listening

  • @69MC97gc true. I heard John gave a very negative review of the album. That must've been why. And how did Paul let the Beatles down?

  • @TheVinylBird By the Vinyl he means we were the ones to buy the LP.Scratchy vinyl, great music wich was put down because of the feud between Paul and John,George and Ringo.I remember everybody putting Maccas first down not because of the music but because they thought Paul had let Beatles down. Those were the days my friend..

  • @JoeOrber i'm not sure what you mean by the cartridge, but you don't have to change anything. You'll have to clean the needle if it gets a bunch of dirt on it. You can also record Vinyl or Cassette to CD with it, and I got this at Christmas a few years ago at Kmart for $100. So, yes, I recommend it, even though I'm on a budget.

  • @JoeOrber I see you have a Crosley turntable unit, do you recommend it? It seems to be really good. How often do you have to change the cartridge? some people advise to change it after 20 records but that seems too often to me.
