I couldn't' believe that a Sapphire crystal was scratchproof until I got a watch with one 16-years ago. You can wear the metal bezel down from abrasion, but the sapphire crystal will look the same as the day it came from the box. What it will do is smash into sand if it breaks. One crack and the entire crystal will disintegrate into a find crystalline sand of equal size particles. Happened to a friend's watch and it was as equally unbelievable.

Re: Question from Beswick: This is a model 116233. I own the older model 16233. Also, a newer Rolex has appeared, the "Datejust II" which is even larger in size than the one shown, and more expensive, of course.
