I think you are right about the educational purposes... Like with books and images in them. I know that if you are in an art class and eye-trace a picture in a book. It is not copyright because it is being used for educational purposes.

the fact that that is actually from final fantasy advent children annoys me. Aren't you technically not allowed to use copyright stuff in modular works? we weren't even allowed to make our own versions of copyrighted songs when we were doing A level moving image arts.

Yes the music is from Advent Children, and the sword is heavily influenced from that too. However I asked around my class during the module, and they said that it was ok to use the music as long as you credit it at the end (which I have) and are not actually using the piece in a portfolio (which I'm not). I also heard that students are exempt from copyright if it is only for educational purposes. Not too sure though.
