Why people voted for Ford is beyond me.
-
don't compare NY or Chicago,
why didn't you mention the Hong Kong library?
-
@kevlonk (Continued from last post)
And above all:
-NOT CHARGE PEOPLE MORE FOR TAKING BOOKS OUT-- libraries should be about accessibility and opening up to the WHOLE community, not just those in a specific income bracket.
If these qualifications are met, then and only then will I trust a privatized library branch.
-
I will ONLY accept a privatized library branch if said branch does the following:
-Build a collection development policy on what patrons NEED, rather than necessarily what they want
-Have trained professionals manage the branch, but not be afraid to take on volunteers
-Initiate programs, outreach and events for Toronto citizens, much like TPL currently does
-Not censor anything-- make everything equally accessible, and be ready to defend its collection against bannings/removals
(Continued)
-
Cut the salaries of the librarians.
-
This needs more views - pass it on - ourpubliclibrary.to my councillor voted to close the Urban Affairs library downtown.
-
... he learned from the "liberry" of life.

.... you'll survive. :))

I'm not aware that "The plans of Toronto's mayor, Rob Ford, to close library branches and potentially privatize the rest". Where is this stated? I believe KPMG identified this as an option. You wouldn't be playing loose with the facts would you?
The library saved me through high school. It was a safe place to study and being a child of single parent the only place to get the books required to succeed. Now it is the only place to do the same for all children in Toronto.

Sounds like Doug Ford should have visited a few more 'libarries' when he was a kid...
