Dangerous Beauty is a biographical drama film directed by Marshall Herskovitz.

It is adapted from the non-fiction book "The Honest Courtesan", by Margaret Rosenthal about the life of Veronica Franco, a courtesan in 16th century Venice, who - during the days of Venice's glory - is spurned by her true love because she does not have a proper dowry to appease his family. With no other alternative, she becomes a courtesan, an occupation legally permitted to women of a certain rank. With her looks and wit, she quickly becomes the most sought after courtesan in Italy, but still cannot overcome the societal restrictions that keeps her apart from her true love.

  • One of the best parts of the whole movie. You realy get to see how amazing her mother was and what a good courtesan she must have bin.

  • @TheNuharoo in Venice they did. ;) trust me

  • @cordoovab Toooo true. that's how I was taught to do but with a little less sexual overtone to be sure.

  • @aussiegrllawyer exactly , and besides though i agree that its sad that this is the life she had to take, it's no worse than being a wife in those times and in many respects better, at least you had some freedom. After all its not like life was that great for women back then whatever they were, her mother at least showed her how to become the best, so she'd have a fighting chance.

  • @TheNuharoo and it was true that veronica franco actually influenced the french king to give venice ships for the war against the turks. she later married and had several children. she really did defend herself against the inquisition and won. soooooo they are rather powerful. she wasn't the only one.

  • @TheNuharoo actually the courtesans were respected. and they were actully the most educated women in the world. they were in fact powerful. not only in italy, but in greece and spain as well. they were able to influence political decisions. you should research them.

  • I really wonder how Veronica's mother could make herself believe that courtesans were SO valuable and so powerful. They weren't and quite honestly I wonder if Veronica's mother showed her where the courtesans end up (street life prostitution) before pimping her. Or if Veronica had to find that out for herself. I mean, the way her mother makes it sound, she makes it sound as if courtesans were perfectly safe and respected, but were playthings.

  • ayeayeaye! Damn 6:24 is a lolipop. Sweet Sugar,......*fan self*

  • Her mother is hot...
