What exactly, is the difference between merging and stitching?

@FlegoronNL not much, but on some occasions stitching works better than merging in case of size differences.

i dont see a way to "merge" nurbs and treat them as one object....

Can you stick two different loft surfaces, say you loft a surface, then you have a boundry surface. Can you stich the loft to the side of the boundry?

Can you stick two different loft surfaces, say you loft a surface, then you have a boundry surface. Can you stich the loft to the side of the boundry?
