To me, it's not the image that's creepy as much as it is the high-pitch noise.

They probably thought that there would be such a small amount of viewers (after closedown) nobody would really pay any attention to it. Anyone know if it was aired for a short time or for the remainder of the night??

The clock was shrunk in December to match the globe's size

sometimes they did change, i.e. for comic relief occasionally.
