The rock of the Church is Faith in Jesus. Christ Spirit builds up any and all churches. Catholic or others. Peter is not the key, Peter's faith is the key. Peter is blessed since he knew Jesus as God by faith. Peter is a Rock in that he believes and knows Jesus as God and Savior. Peter is a leader in the early church but not the only leader. So, catholic is universal in that all believe in Jesus are God's children and part of the church. The universal truth. Jesus is Lord.

@MRGV7373 You are right that faith is key. Remember, though, that the Lord did not say, "Peter, your faith is a rock." He said, "You are rock (kepha) and upon this rock (kepha) I will build my church." He used the same word both times. Catholic convert Steve Ray has a great article on it - Google "Rock, Peter or Confession by Steve Ray"

@CatholicismLive However, Jesus use the word for Small Rock- a word play. Jesus never trusted any humans for salvation. Jesus trusted humans filled with His Holy Spirit by confessing Jesus as Lord to build His church. Jesus could have said this to Peter at any time. But only after Peter said that Jesus was God did Jesus say that Peter confession is the Rock of the church. Why did Jesus wait tell then? Simple, Peter had never confessed Jesus as God until this time.

@MRGV7373 We could certainly get into a 'hairy' discussion on what salvation means, and other instances in Scripture where Peter's authority among the apostles is demonstrated. However, I don't think YouTube comments are the right place for such a discussion. I pray that we will both come to the fullness of the Truth by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

In Canada, and no doubt elsewhere, priests no longer identify themselves by wearing a black suit or black shirt. We have become invisible. We Priests must be "seen"! We must be seen as images of Christ. We don't have to preach when in black, just be friendly to all we meet. I tried it recently at a Walmart's. I was well received, even by Muslims. No one objected to my attire(Roman Collar). A combination of the Roman Collar with kindness and friendliness is a path we must try again.

This man is a poor soul. Its not his fault that he is decieved,and deluded, its his fate. I dont know if the Lord is going to save him, but people who are like him are perishing, unless Jesus does a miracle.

Growing up I didn't feel this shame and guilt that catholics supposedly are burdened with, although I can see that someone from outside the faith looking in could incorrectly surmise that. As I learned in adulthood that Catholic means universal - missed that when younger - the more I saw how beautifully the many doctrines are designed to accommodate all kinds of people - those under the sway of Islam especially.

@MRGV7373 If the Greek word kepha is for "Small Rock" and intended a word play, then what was the purpose of this event, giving of the keys to the kingdom of heaven to him, or even naming him "Kepha"? Also, if Jesus never trusted humans for salvation, then why did he establish His Church both in heaven AND on earth, or even give the blessings of God to the Apostles? If the points you've made are true, then the Gospels of John, Matthew, Acts, and the Book of James would have no meaning.

There is good and evil, light and dark, no grey area, if people try to bend God's rules to suit their own desires, it cannot work: God is not mocked: Gal. 6:7. Jesus is the Way the Truth and the Life. John 14:6. Notice that our Lord said 'the' way and not 'a' way. Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.' John 14:6. Read John 3:3 to find out how our souls can be saved.

@CatholicismLive Yes it is a good place to debate the truth. Peter has the keys and he used them to unlock - 1) the Jews Acts 2, 2) Samaritans Act 4 3) Food - no Dirty food anymore- Acts 9 4) Gentiles - come to know Jesus as Lord. Peter had and used the keys in beautiful ways. The keys were never to be passed on. Just used once by Peter to do the work of God. Jesus never passed them onto anyone else but Peter. Not the other Apostles or other believers.or bishops/pope
