Pivotal flashback scene from the film SOPHIE'S CHOICE (1982) starring Meryl Streep. SPOILER ALERT: This is a closing scene to a film that, until this moment, had avoided revealing the "choice" alluded to in the film's title.

  • All of us could be high and mighty and say we could never choose between loved ones. But when that moment comes, we will make a choice. It doesn't mean we love the doomed individual any less.

I wondered why Meryl Streep chose to save the boy but then I realized that if she had chosen her daughter, her chances of living are lower and she could be raped so many times.

  • This part is absolutely awful. It sends chills down my spine to hear the little girl's screams. That would be the worst decision a person would ever have to make.

  • @Matty6660 AllanFrankland thinks he'll save the world by ignoring the bad things in it (nice strategy there man, I'm sure the world is a better place if we just try our best to pretend it is.) Disregarding him though, she chose to keep her son because of her two kids he is the likeliest to survive in there. So keeping her son is her best shot at losing the least possible amount of children.

  • @AllanFrankland Well I did. So there.

  • @Matty6660 Because it is not something you ask.

  • @AllanFrankland why?

  • OMGGGGGGGGG WTF!! this movie must be intense! choose one children it is hard u have to live with that all your live

  • @Matty6660 Shut up you idiot.

  • why did she choose the girl?

  • Chills... Meryl is so great, there are no words...

  • @chok1ta Sorry children, mummy doesn't want to choose. So you can both die now, now run along with the nice Nazi.

I don't get it, you would feel bad about letting one die. But you would be A-OK with letting both of them die as long as you don't have to choose. LOGIC

  • omg i dont usually cry so quick in a movie but this just tore me apart!!! i've got a little girl and all i can imagine is her being taken away from me. i'd rather give my life than let my kids die. omg what a horrible situation to be put in. so glad that even tho this world is still in trouble in some places i cherish my freedom!
