The University Development Area at the NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) Research Park in Silicon Valley will encompass a dynamic new sustainable mixed use community that intends to have a minimal carbon footprint.
The former Moffett Naval Air Station, owned by the NASA Ames Research Center, will be transformed into a next-generation research community through a collaborative led by the University of California, Santa Cruz, and including Carnegie Mellon University, Santa Clara University, Foothill/De Anza Community College, and San Jose State University.
The University Development Area will combine academic institutions, private technology companies, and housing to advance the goal of science and technology that serve the regions people and economy. This new community, surrounded by the worlds highest concentration of high-tech companies, will foster collaborative research with NASA Ames to further NASAs mission. It also will embody leading-edge environmental sustainability practices in energy generation, conservation, and waste management.
