Paul Davis had his first American Top 10 single with the slow ballad "I Go Crazy," which peaked at #7 in 1978. "I Go Crazy" spent 40 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, which at the time set the single-song record for most consecutive weeks on the chart in the rock era. Paul died of a heart attack at Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian, Mississippi. He was 60.

Lyrics:

Hello girl it's been awhile
Guess you'll be glad to know
That I've learned how to laugh and smile

Getting over you was slow
They say old lovers can be good friends
But I never thought I'd really see you,
I'd really see you again

I go crazy
When I look in your eyes I still go crazy
No my heart just can't hide that old feelin' inside
Way deep down inside
Oh baby, you know when I look in your eyes I go crazy

You say he satifies your mind
Tells you all of his dreams
I know how much that means to you

I realize that I was blind
Just when I thought I was over you
I see your face and it just ain't true
No it just ain't true

I go crazy
When I look in your eyes I still go crazy
That old flame comes alive, it starts burning inside
Way deep down inside
Oh baby, you know when I look in your eyes I go crazy

Oooh, Oh Oooh, Oh
I go crazy
You know when I look in your eyes I go crazy
No my heart just can't hide that old feelin' inside
Way deep down inside
I go crazy

  • This song does something to me in my soul. I wish I could explain it better, but all I can say is it hypnotizes me.

Gets ya' feelin' romantic and weak in the knees!

    Thanks for posting this gem!!!

  • Definetly this is a very romantic and expressive love song by Paul, I remember that time when I was a teenager in love of a beautiful girl town where I lived in Lima Peru in the late 70's, this was my favorite song that made me remember Her every time I listened on the radio. Perhaps today I feel the same emotion when I listen this wonderful song. I feel sorry for Paul He must be singing to the angels.

  • Another timeless classic:-)

  • I agree with blufrenchie! it does get you week in the knees! This makes me think of a guy I fell in love with when I was in El Salvador on active duty (USNR) and he was in Iraq on active duty in 2004/05. We wrote, we talked, but lost touch for about 6 years. Just reconnected on facebook I hope, I hope, that we can finally see other again. He lives in east coast and I live in West Coast :(

  • he fell in love with susan anton, i think he wroye this song for her........ he NEVER was the same after they broke up..... i cant blame him, that wouldve WIPED ME OUT also.... RIP........

  • @SATRUDER2009 Bravo

  • @cliffcox66 wow...THAT comment makes ME sad....

  • @cliffcox66 Wow, so right on the money!

  • Unfortunately, I break into tears when I hear this song. The human "condition", I am a victim of. The part especially when he says, "They say old lovers can be good friends". reminds me of love lost, what could have been, and the emptiness of what IS.

  • Incredible!
