Poor Edith.

the chose edith because she was such a loved character on the show and her being attacked like this would have a greater effect on the audience. Besides being youn and pretty does not get you raped there are women in their nineties who get attacked by rapists.

why wouldnt they use Edith whats wrong with that? rape is sooo awful and they did use Gloria in another episode before

I think that they added too many jokes to the attempted rape scene. The episode could have been done better.

I dont think they added jokes or anything its just the audience laughing because edith is trying to distract him, the audience doesnt know whats going on so their laughing because their nervous and not sure where their going with this

It's like watching my mother (who passed away years ago) being assaulted / raped... maybe that answers your question?

The episode wouldn't have had the same effect if it was Gloria who was attacked.

I don't know.. it doesn't seem realistic for a young man to be attracted to a middle age woman enough to rape her like Edith. I thought he would want a young attractive woman like Gloria.. that's why I said she would be better suited for this episode..

All rapists want is control, and that's why Edith works as the perfect victim here. Gloria isn't naive/innocent enough to let herself be put into this type of situation, and she would be apt to fight back. That's why Gloria wouldn't work in this situation, and Edith does. It's not about how young/attractive a woman is, it's about the horrors of rape and its effects on the victims. I mean look at how scared Edith was afterwards. THAT'S what it's about.
