Your teacher is a loser, who doesn't have any respect for taichi, he just want to promote his style cuz he doesn't understand other style. chen tai chi is the original tai chi style. Chen xiaowang is one of the greatest taichi master in the moment. He is in his 60's now and i would like to see your teacher saying that shit to this guy.

yeah thats true if this was kung fu...tension at the end will hurt opponent BUT the energy will stop at your fist instead of actually deeply entering opponents body.

The fa jin concept is quite clear - use of only core muscles, and tension only at the end of the technique, be it a throw, trip or strike or qin na. He seems to have mastered the fa jin, but his head shakes too much, which makes some taiji quan people quite mad. :)

this is taking into account of course the sectarianistic nature of Taichi, with the various schools placing emphasis on different aspects of the art.

and abraxnos the tenseness I'm talking about isn't the same as if you flexed your muscles and forced them stiff. The key is not to overthink things as you're throwing the punch. It's all in the breath control, similar to Karate's "KIAAA!"

Well he is 60 years old, so he is not going to fight Chuck Lidell.
