Last time I checked he IS the only black kid in class...

My six year-old son says there's other black kids in his LAUSD classroom... but, ahem, according to the way race works in America, there aren't. The kids he's talking about all come from Latino backgrounds and are from Mexico, El Salvadorean or Guatamalan backgrounds. I wonder if they also identify as black. He's also more interested in telling how Juan smashed his "pumpkin plate" last fall and talking about who's his friend instead of dwelling on racial classification.
