Mona Island, Puerto Rico (From the Air)

Here's a unique aerial view of Mona Island, Puerto Rico. I have flown over Mona many times, but my most enjoyable visits were the ones where I could explore the desolate island for a few days at a time (Mona has no permanent residents). Mona is an extraordinary place to visit: Iguanas, wild boars, extensive cave system, an abandoned lighthouse, great SCUBA diving, and SOLITUDE! Just take water...it's awfully dry out there!

Is there any way for a private pilot like me to fly a Cessna 172 from Mayaguez to Mona?

Yes. There is a grass strip on the southwest corner of the island. I'd estimate it to be 1500-2000 feet long...but your should double-check that (I flew helos in there, so I never researched how long it was. Also...you'll want to check with Puerto Rico Dept of Natural Resources first. They regulate visitors. You need a permit ahead of time.

Is the name of that boat the Orca II? While I was flying helicopters in Puerto Rico, I also chartered your uncle's boat, I think, for 2 trips. Is he based out of Boqueron? Tell me his name and I'll know for sure!

Okay. I went to Puerto Rico in August, but it was too windy to fly at all. I hate how there are only 2 places on the island that will let me rent a plane (Isla Grande and Arecibo). Also, is there some website or email that I need to send to the Dept of Natural Resources?

"Orca" is the other guy that takes people there. My uncles's boat is the "Torpedo" from Puerto Real (next to Boqueron bay).
