Joel Lindstrom, sensei at the HAI KI Aiki Aikido Center in Eugene, Oregon gives a brief lesson on doing an aikido roll. Shoulder rolls are a technique used to safely fall forward. They are different than a somersault because the roller goes diagonally across her back rather than straight over her head. This keeps the head safe. • If you fall and trip, how are you suppose to go to your knee before you roll.

  • Thanks for the comment. It reminds me that I need to put up a standing roll video. Once I get the video up, you'll see. Basically, you take the roll landing on your rounded, extended arm and transfering from that to your shoulder. You can practice it by starting with a kneeling forward roll and standing a bit so your no longer on your knee. Keep your hand on the ground. You'll be leaning over. Then take a roll. And practice, practice, practice.

    Thanks
