Melbourne W-2 class tram 496, built in 1929, turns from Mission Street onto the Embarcadero while running on San Francisco's F-line, with the Ferry Building visible in the background. Taken on 27-July-2007.

  • It has been like this since it arrived in San Francisco. I always assumed this was its original condition. It's a great car to ride on.

  • Those W2 class trams never had any. They were built in the 1920s and had canvas blinds (you can see one down) The ends of the trams were enclosed with internal sliding doors, leaving the centre part open. Later in the late 1930s, there were newer versions made with driver operated sliding doors. Some of these are still in service in Melbourne.
