  • hay Camden depot i guess strasburg or leake weren't deserving for best pick last year. Oh wait leake is in the majors and strasburg should be in the majors. MAazek is where? i'm not saying he sucks cuz he is amazing, but he was not the best pick in the draft.

  • @crispycob I think you have my position confused. Strasburg was clearly the top pick -- my comment above was that Matzek was the best pick (value wise) in the first round. I had Matzek second overall and he went 11th. Leake was the most polished pitcher behind Strasburg and it doesn't surprise me he is the first arm in his class to make the Majors.

  • Still think Leake tops out at a mid-rotation arm, maybe flirts with a #2 if everything breaks right, with Strasburg and Matzek each having true ace potential. Matzek is still in extended spring training, with COL limiting his innings this year.

  • Good call Camden......

11th overall pick by Colorado!!! Rockies need you bud!

  • Certainly the best pick of the 1st round. Crazy to hear Colorado would have gone after Hobgood had Matzek been off the board -- you could buy 2 Hobgoods for the price of 1 Matzek.

Anyway, not surprised he slipped some with the asking price -- Colorado got a good one, but they'll have to pay him.

  • my bad, Camden depot. you are 100 % right. If leake gets his velocity up to possibly 92-94 he might be a future #1. But yes, Matzek and Strasburg and both future aces in the MLB. Strasburg and the nationals are a joke because of the fact that there keeping him in the minors to save $ when he could have been in the mlb last year. The nationals as a whole are a joke, Strabsurg is clearly the best pitcher in their system.

  • Let's just hope he pans out and doesn't end up the next Greg Reynolds.

  • I'm excited the Reds drafted him. I'm a reds fan and I think he would be a nice addition to the bullpen/starting pitching staff

  • Leake is solid average to a tick above across the board for me, with plus command. I think he's off the board in the first half of the first round (most likely to Colorado at 11). Were he a bit larger with a legit Major League put-away pitch, I think he would be in Top 5 consideration for SEA, SDN, PIT and BAL.

  • what do you feel about Mike Leake?
