beneathdatrees0, you only feel glad that you get to spend hours away from your parents because you have not experienced the pleasure of home schooling. My teen daughter is a pleasure to be around. She knows what she wants to do and how to make it happen. Public school exposes her to bullies, drugs, etc. distracting her from her life goals. My 13 yo daughter is taking calculus and college level science to achieve her goals to be a vet. My 9yo son is starting Algebra to be a computer programmer.

@Mikashmak Yea...just to make it clear: I don't think homeschooling overall is bad. You just need to be a dedicated parent to do it and give your kid the best experience.

love it! :)

Sort of a different perspective here: I was home-schooled up until my freshman year of high school and I absolutely HATED it. I didn't get any socialization at all because my mentally unstable mom refused to take me to any sort of homeschool groups or clubs. I literally had no friends at all my entire childhood and has social anxiety as a direct result. Maybe if my mom was not so crazy my experience would have been better, but being homeschooled did not work out so well for me. Just being honest

The benefit of being publicly-schooled is that you are guaranteed "away-time" from your parents or guardians for at a few hours a day, especially if the parents are generally unpleasant to be around. The flip-side, however, is that you get to be around MANY unpleasant people for 7 hours a day.

I'd love to see them banter more about their socialization opportunities, since her mom is available to drive her to socialize and his dad is at work all the time and all he does is stay home after school playing video games.
