Final video showing tone difference of the Gibson SG Standard between the Gibson Sg Special Faded. This is due to many questions received regarding difference in tone between the 2 by people who want one or the other but don't know what sounds different in them. With Gibsons I find you get what you pay for.The standard is more $ but has hotter pickups and much more attractive appearance.I bought the faded first for same reason many of you are thinking of it,to get a nice playing and sounding guitar without going broke.Eventually ,when I came into more money,I got the standard.I kept the faded so now own both. Faded is not a weak or poor guitar, just the standard is nicer.I think all the questions have been answered. If you want to know prices of them, look them up,I don't sell them, just play them.I can't tell you what one to get, thats up to you.Hopefully this video helps you in deciding.I play both guitars ,switching many times between the 2 playing similiar bits to show sound difference. They do sound little different, but both sound good. For those who cannot tell which is the standard and which is the faded, the faded is the one with the dot inlays in the neck and uncovered pickups, the standard has trapazoid inlays in the neck and chrome pickup covers. Also, for comparing purposes,I am playing both of these 2 guitars in the video using the bridge pickup and the volume and tone controls set all the way up in both guitars.

faded has:
1-2 thin coats of nitro laquer
no neck binding
dot pearl inlays in the neck
uncovered pickups
490r(neck) and 490t pickups(bridge)
body is multiple pieces of mahagony(mine has at least 4 pieces)

The standard has:
numerous coats of nitro laquer
neck binding
trapazoid pearl inlays in neck
chrome covered pickups
490r(neck) and 498t pickups(bridge)
body is 1 to 3 pieces of mahagony.Mine is one.

Also, this is not meant to be a contest bewtween the 2 or which is superior, but to show you the differences between the 2.I do not care which one you like, don't like, etc.I do not sell them.I do not know how much they currently cost.I do not know what mods you should do.I am simply showing the differences between these 2 guitars.

Also,I have no tolerance for some of you who feel they have nothing better to do than to trash, flame,or disrespect other you tube videos or users.I am not into games,I want no part of it.If you have no legitimate questions or positive comments, move on and take them with you.
Thank you

  • How long have u had this guitar for ive always wanted to buy this been playing for about 2 and a half years now

  • @TheDeadKeepRising Had it a little while now.

     Its a nice guitar.

  • Which is better in general? a comparrison would be nice if anyone could find one :) cheers

  • @Ollyprvb

I guess whichever one you like better. Why don't you go to a guitar center or music store and compare them? There's a concept.

  • Is there any difference in body construction that affects the weight of these two? I heard the Special is very light. I don't know if it's light by itself or in comparison to other models, possibly the Standard.

Also it would be a related question: do you notice the neck dive problem with any or both of these? Epi SG are notorious for that.

  • @VinniePaah

Differentgrade/quality of wood.all guitars can vary in weight. Its normal as no wood is same as next.Inever have an issue with neck dive but I suppose it could be present in any guitar or sg guitar

  • @mefju1212 Shoot To Thril by AC/DC

  • what's that name of song you are playing at the beginning?

  • If you want a used one, the faded ones go for about 500, while the standard goes for about 700, so it's not that much of a difference

  • thanks for the comparison both sound great. standard looks more appealing to me but not worth the price increase.

  • I liked the trapezoid inlays, otherwise the faded is awesome.

  • @olegsus83

    could be

  • Very useful comparison.

The sound is like 99% the same but it's apparent - even with YouTube lossy sound - that the 498T has a bit less body and a bit more edge

  • hell yeah gone shootin riff at 3:00. Awsome
