That is kind of ironic, because Nicolas Cage was nominated that year for Adaptation. No offense to Cage, but I don't think there is anything Oscar-worthy about him at all. Leaving Las Vegas was the best performance of his career, but overall, there's nothing sophisticated about him as an actor. I think they should have replaced Cage in Adaptation that year with Hoffman in Love Liza.
