Peak Moment 122: If an emergency forced you to evacuate your home, would you be prepared? Matthew Stein, author of When Technology Fails, shows what to pack in your 72-hour emergency survival kit — and why. Check out the first aid kits, sleeping bag and space blanket, LED flashlight, hand-crank disaster radio, portable stove and cook set, freeze-dried food, multi-tool, compass, water holder, and essential water treatment items; plus sewing, repair, and health items. The packing list is on his website, http://www.whentechfails.com

  • 28 min wooooo i wish we canmake our videos that long

  • Peak Moment has been posting shows since 2006. Apparently they "grandfathered" in our shows when they limited shows to 10 minutes awhile back.

  • Tea tree oil... Anyone know anything about that? Sounds good I haven't heard of it yet.

  • Has some anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory properties. A friend uses it against toxic mold.

  • Wow ! Where to start??? 1. Clarify & B O I L your water. Filtering water is NOT enough. 2. Perhaps I missed it but I saw no...NO fire source. While MUCH of this information is good RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH for yourself. Remember the Rule of 3s 3 minutes without air 3 Days without water 3 Weeks without food. Only 3 seconds without your smarts. No Fire=No Water I'm betting this is Mom interviewing Dad with Junior on the camera. MOST info here is good. Learn More !
  • Hi clearlyme2u, Thanks for your important additions and reminders.

Wrong bet. It's the Peak Moment host Janaia interviewing the book author Mat Stein with Peak Moment videographer Robyn Mallgren on the camera. You don't get good lighting like that from Junior.

But thanks for the support and adding to our info!

  • your backpack must be huge, I gotta say its all good info but I would not want to carry all that stuff. Being more select we your gear could lighten up the stuff you bring.

  • 1:37 What the hell was that shoulder movement for? lol

  • Really love this idea and your suggestions!! I live in Texas and we were most definitely affected by Hurricane Katrina and then by Ike. I'm thinking about writing a blog this afternoon for those people who are staying at home and might lose electricity. Most of your suggestions will be applicable for both! Kudos for a great video once again!!

  • Wonderful video!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I learned sooo much! I thought I had a great BOB, I realize now I didn't, but I will now! You MAY have saved my life!

    The blessings of Yeshua.

  • I always had in having the material at hand to make a travois would be a good idea if 1 would be forced to move supplies any distance. A wheeled handcart would be better, but more difficult to stow to keep hand in a vehicle The "flashlight" I use most is the single bright LED 1 on my key chain

  • @maxinpains The mask was not repented as a gas mask

  • @clearlyme2u Yes you missed the small camp stove and cook kit.

  • @globalwarming93 They where speaking of any PRESCRIPTION medication you need.. real important for diabetics & those who need medication for seizure control, to name only a couple of examples.

  • "and theres also a thermometer on there", "HAHAHAHAHAHAHA"

  • wonderfullllll

  • @beast12101

I pick and choose if it has to go onto my back. For instance, I have a large "river guide's" first aid kit that goes in a blue tub in my truck, if I am able to take my truck, but if it goes on my back, I take the compact palm sized first aid kit with a stretchy ace bandage and a roll of 1 1/2" cloth first aid tape, and the big kit stays at home in the blue tub.

  • hmmmmmm ill stick to nutnfancys USK thumbs up if your a TMPer
