kids love it and so do adults!!!

tamborine+dowel+2 strings =fun....
quick instructions:
1 toy tambourine,1 piece of dowel (ply) from Home depot
1 candy tin top, 1 broken plastic bride from a guitar
1 machine tuner, 1 ukulele tuner, 4 screws, wood glue, one little chunk of wood

enlarge hole on tambourine rim to fit dowel through...(jigsaw), dowel through, drive a screw through rim into dowel this serves to fasten and acts as a string holder, find a shim of wood and slip it through hole space between rim and dowel and fasten with screws for added stationary value, drill two holes at top of neck proper size for tuners, i put the machine tuner on top and uke tuner below, i used a banjo string for bass, and uke string for treble, fasten strings to screw in back of the instrument....slip candy tin and bridge piece underneath strings. make a little block or piece of wood that you can glue right below tuners and file grooves for strings...tighten up strings and voila!

sweet! now I have a holiday project, as I'm not "allowed" to buy any more ukes. Two questions for you: 1) what did you use for strings, and 2) what notes do you tune it to?

i used one banjo string....and one aquila nylgut baritone uke string.....i'll have to check the tuning, but basically you get your 'root' note and the 1st string is your '5th'
