@GaeilgeSpraoi evidence? how would you provide evidence for a miracle? then only way you can do that is by a mutiple eyewitnesses account of it. its clearly evolutionary thought and philosophy that everything comes from our molecules and so anything that happens is just because thats how our atoms felt.... and since evolution is "proven" then why be against religion when it just comes from our atoms? thats not being free, nor respected as humans, we are all truly animals because of this theory
Well we could go on with this train of thought but there are dozens of things we can't prove but we don't believe in them. II could say to you that your freedom and existence is an illusion because there is an evil dæmon who is omnipotent and is controlling your every thought and action, to borrow from Descartes. We could say that that is the case but we don't know and can't prove it isn't so. That's why we rely on evidence and there is none to suggest atomic brain interference or dæmon.
@GaeilgeSpraoi but you don't know that do you, if your thinking is a sign of freedom, how do you know its not your atoms influencing your thoughts and changing and destroying your real opinion? you don't know so no matter what, you are either being locked into the illusion of freedom and so you can never truly tell if your in control or not..... it just seems like you are....
Yes we are slaves to our bodies because we cannot exist independently of them. I disagree with you. Thinking is perhaps the only thing that marks our freedom because it's via thought processes that we make choices. You could be tied up but you could still think! We never reach our potential freedom due to determined factors but we are free beings because we can make choices. I'd recommend reading 'Being and Nothingness' by Sartre.
Evolution isn't unique to nonbelief, in fact many religions accept it. There are vast amounts of empirical evidence in favour of it. You're talking about Materialistic Determinism here. I believe on one hand yes we are naturally determined by nature, hereditary, society, etc but we are still free. The existentialist Jean-Paul Sartre said "man is condemned to be free" and that even if one is tied up, they can still think and breath. Our freedom may be constantly limited, but exists nevertheless
Well neither do you have free-will if you accept Christianity. God is omniscient so he can see the future even his actions before he's performed them and he's also omnipotent so he's all-powerful. So he already knows the course of our lives and our destiny (i.e. heaven or hell) before we've lived it. So essentially our lives are already predetermined so it really questions free will? According to Evolution, yes we are limited to our environment and nature. We can't fly for example like a bird.
I read up on the claimed authors who provided secular sources for the historicity of Jesus and all of them never lived during this time but after by at least 32AD. There is speculation in fact on the authenticity of the documents. Christianity has been used for political and social control and due to these motivations, one questions the genuineness of so-called "evidence". "Christ" was a title, not a name, in fact a common name meaning 'The anointed one' and was given to many at that time.
@GaeilgeSpraoi so calling yourselves free-thinkers is nothing more than a lie you tell yourselves just comfort yourself and not worry while being a hypocrite to your philosophy. you truly do have logic that you follow and makes sense. don't get me wrong here, i'm not here to make fun of you, im here to prove a point. so you don't represent yourself, your nothing more than a slave to the chemical build-up of your body.
Right on bro..I agree.
