Well, your scale lies to you about 0.02 of a gram, so how do you determine for sure that this "gold" is a real gold all the way deep inside? It might be copper or brass wire thickly galvanized with specific gold karat. You have no idea WHAT SCAMMERS ARE CAPABLE OFF. You might wear this ring for a lifetime in fate that you got it in 14k. Acid testing is only usefull if you cut through the metal, and check it "to the centre of the bone!"
@Cash4GoldCA The instruction manual on the GXL 24 Pro says you can make a small pinhole in the questionable piece. Have you tried this? I recently bought a pair of earrings which read 22 karat on the GXL. Upon further inspection (after I had purchased the earrings), I filed deeply into the piece and retested to find that it was plated. I am curious if there is a less destructive way to test for plating.
