I drove the Grand Corniche road in early August, Nice to Monaco and back to my hotel in Nice a couple of times, it was on my list of world's great roads - but I was disappointed. The escalators down to the lower roads are really interesting due to their narrowness, but the Corniche roads are just overbuilt two laners. Much better thrill/ view factors on the Pacific Coast Highway south of Monterey Ca. You won't miss much if you take the bus.
