Chapter 2

"He gives to much homework!" Leah yelled. We were sitting on the couch in my living room eating popcorn and watching a Lifetime movie.
"Mr. Taylor is a teacher. Thats what he's supposed to do." I laughed at her.
"All I'm saying is that I wish I had the money to rent a monkey just so I could take it to his class and it could slap him." She shrugged and popped a few pieces of popcorn in her mouth.
"Hey, if you can find a place that rents out monkeys for that reason then I'd be happy to give you the money." We laughed as the door bell rang.
"Kay, could you get that for me?!" My mom yelled from the kitchen.
"Sure!" I got up grabbing Leah's arm as I did. "Come on."
"I'm coming. I'm coming."
We walked to the door and when I opened it no one was there. After looking around a few times my eyes swept over the ground and I saw a single yellow daisy with a note taped to it.
"Aww." I picked it up and shut the door.
"Whos it from?" Leah and I walked back into the living room and sat down.
"I dont know. Lets find out." I unfolded the card and slowly read the neat print written in red ink.

I wanted to remind you about the game tonight. I couldn't let you not be there because I'd miss those beautiful eyes too much. See you later.

Joe


"Aww. Read this." I handed Leah the note and about 10 seconds later she 'awwed' too. I told you he was sweet.
"Come on, let's go get our war paint on. Our school is going to kick the other team's butt." I laughed as Leah pulled me up the stairs to my room.
After we got dressed and painted our school colors on our faces we were headed out the door and on our way to Joes game.
We walked arm and arm to our seats in the stadium while stopping to talk to some friends of ours on the way. After we got to our seats, which were right above the dug out, our team came out and us and some fellow classmates cheered. Joe smiled and waved at me so I waved back.
"Gosh. He looks killer in that uniform . . . the whole team does." Leah said while gazing dreamily at the field. The announcer went through everyones names on the team and what position they played. We found out that Joes little brother Nick is on the team too.
Eight very long innings later, it was the last few minutes of the ninth inning, the teams were tied, and Joe was up to bat. He swung once . . . Strike! He swung a second twice . . . Strike!
"Come on Joe. You can do it." I whispered to no one in particular. He swung a third time and . . . Bam! He hit it out of the park! Since all the bases were full we ended up getting four home runs. It was so amazing. Everyone knew we had won and the team was going to nationals, so after the game was officially over almost our whole school rushed the field crowding around our team with congrats. Leah and I were on the outskirts of the mob talking.
"Man, Joe is so going to get a scholarship. He was phenomenal." Leah squealed excitedly.
"I know." I felt a tap on my shoulder and I turned around to see Joe and his brother Nick standing there all sweaty in their uniforms. "Hey Joe."
"Hey Kaylee, Leah." He smiled at us.
"Hi Joe." Leah said grinning.
"This is my brother Nick." He gestured towards Nick. "Nick this is Leah and, my personal favorite, Kaylee." He smiled at me making me blush. I felt Leah nudge me.
"Hey." Nick said showing a warm smile.
"Hi." Leah and I said in unison.
"Hey Kaylee, a bunch of my teammates are going to Rita's Diner to celebrate. Do you want to come? You can come to Leah." I thought about it for a moment.
"Sure. Why not? Well meet you guys there." I linked arms with Leah as we started to walk away.
"Cool. See ya." He and Nick walked off to shower as we headed to our cars.
