This is a solo run done in Wild ARMS 4. As the name implies, a solo run is one where you run through it with only one character. However, Wild ARMS 4 revives all your dead allies after battle and there's no way to remove them from the party permanently. As such, in the design process, Talaysen and I set up the rules as follows:
- Characters other than the solo character can only Guard or Move. They are not allowed to take any other action.
-Characters other than the solo character must be level 10 or under. To do this, you need to Monopoly Gourd. So in exchange for faster level up gains, you sacrifice one accessory slot and three characters.
-Characters other than the solo character must use their initial equipment. No Alter Parts may be used for Jude's ARM.
- No items that can be only gotten through New Game+ carry overs can be used. This last rule is to ensure you don't go into battles with Sheriff Stars equipped at the beginning of the game. It is not meant to be a "hard" rule. But you should try to follow what is reasonable for where you are in the game.
To do a solo game, it has to be done in a new game+. It is the only way to have access to the Monopoly Gourd in the beginning. Using this, we keep other characters' levels in check (read: low!).
Okay, so after all the easy fights before hand, here comes the second to last final hurdle. Before I go into it, a bit of background about how you win this fight.
Trump Card has only 2 attacks (well 3 if you count his initiative + Finest Arts, but I'll get into that): A regular crappy counter and a normal attack that deals more or less fixed 9999 damage. The former consumes 1 bullet. The latter consumes two. The whole point of this fight is to run him out of bullets. Essentially, his bullets is his relative HP. As an aside, he also has 999 HIT, which is to say, will always hit you. None of his other stats other than speed matter at this point.
Obviously, we come into this fight with a few handicaps. Unlike Tal's Raquel solo, I don't have Rapid attack. Next, I don't have enough defense to actually EAT his counters safely. And as a final point, Gawn's opening iniative always drains roughly 50% of your MHP (you can see this with 199 HP Yulie in the background). Meaning you can't simply boost HP to make yourself more durable.
So how do we get past this? First, the set up, like Tal's Raquel solo run remains largely the same. A few key differences though. I buy an extra badge slot instead of class levels. Next, swap to the most defensive armor since Trump Card does not care about evasion. And finally, max twink HP and equip the Goat Doll/Tiny Flower/Monopoly Gourd set. And we're off.
As I have covered in my speedrun blurb, Tiny Flower's boost doesn't wear off until you take another action that is not attack. I'm roughly 51% faster out of the gate than Raq, but become 7% slower for each turn thereafter. It ends up being roughly the same. Every time I attack with the Tiny Flower, I take around 600 damage, giving me 2 attacks, before I must heal. After that, I can attack 2 more times before needing to heal again. Repeat until he runs out of bullets or I die. It's pretty close.
First try as you will see, the AI targeted me twice. If I was allowed to attack with Jude, I would've won it that way! Possibly.
Second time, the game decides its funny to give me a high variance hit, and I take 960 damage or so with only 850 HP left. Oops! *is killed by a crappy counter. Hangs head in shame*. A previous shot only dealt 750!
Third and final time, I got killed a little earlier than I wanted, but the AI, in a rare twist of fate, SPARES me and kills the last non warm body, leaving me a victory!
