Jazz on a Summer's Day in the Ontario countryside. This clip is from July 25th 1990. Australian John Reid played banjo & guitar with the Hot Five Jazzmakers during its first couple of years, before leaving to work in the USA. On drums is Chuck Clarke, on loan from the "Happy Pals" He was recovering from an injured wrist but you would not know it, from the expert way he beats it out in true New Orleans style. Janet Shaw is seated and one can see why! Daughter Jacqueline was born just 48 days after this concert! Rainer Hunck is on string bass. Later he is to switch to banjo, as the H5JM could not find a suitable replacement for John Reid. Brian Graville plays his usual impeccable styling on the trumpet/cornet and leader Brian Towers tailgates away on trombone.
Many thanks to J.S. for shooting this movie.
