Sony VPL-VW100 whine

A Sony VPL-VW100 projector with an updated bulb (to solve a non-start problem), whines when the bulb is on. The fan can be heard when the projector is turned off, much quieter than the whine from the bulb, both audible in the video.

Yes, the problem was fixed. The problem was due to poor contact between the lamp and the heat sink. There are two solutions: reapply the thermal paste; buy a new lamp.

The lamp currently has 1564 hours on it. Yes, the hard start mod was installed by Sony Service. The sound started after that, but was not immediately after.

By the way, the recommended filter cleaning interval is 1250 hours (not 100), although I clean it more often than that. If the filter was so clogged as to prevent air flow, the system would overheat and automatically shut off.

Actually, the projector is in a clean, isolated environment with it's own air system and filter, and is properly maintained. The only "maintenance" is to clean the filter, which consists of little more than removing a small piece of foam and cleaning the dust off of it. Find another reason, 'cause that's not it.

How many hours on the lamp? Do you have the hard start mod installed at Sony service? I've got similar cricket sounds...

what it is is people dont take proper care of the mechine they trash it they dont do the proper maintnence on it like cleaning air filter every 100hours/month wich ever occurs first like if 100 hours comes be4 a month dooes

That would realllllly anoy me, specially having spent as much as the cost... to sound like a ZX Spectrum loading a game constantly, I thaught we were moving forward with technology, bet the pics good though.
