My friend and I just found this and i didn't see any like this yet. It seems to work only if the water is completely surrounded in sand. Seems like a glitch but it hasn't been fixed yet as far as i know... hopefully it won't. Enjoy.

@GeoRandel yes but an elevatOR moves the floor and/or ceiling with you, so that you wont have to step on the next floor and leave a hole in your floor. still nice bug though

@VilleMattiSalmela less materials than ladders (works with any material before beta 1.6 and it climbs faster than ladders :P

@VilleMattiSalmela well... Ladders, espcially after the 1.5 update, cost a lot of wood and in comparisson to this water elevator where you only need 1 bucket and the a casing, wich can be made from any material, so especially in great hights this elevator is signifiantly effecient... :D
