Lyrics:

Maybe I should drop you at you door
Leave tonight and say the sun looks low
Anywhere but here
It's three o'clock, I'm driving in your car
You're screaming out the window at the stars
Please don't drive me home

Blame us 'cause we are who we are
Hate us 'cause you'll never get that far
And who'd suppose that you would go
I've already learned enough to know that...

Tell me all the places we can go
You count the headlights passing on the road, yeah
A long, long time ago

Blame us 'cause we are who we are
Hate us 'cause you'll never get that far
And who'd suppose that you would go
I've already learned enough to know that...

Here we are foreign to their world
Straight and composed
Your sermons I can do without
I've finally found that
Everybody loves to love you
When you're far away

Could it be we've done something wrong
I'll make it back to your place before dawn
Please don't drive me home
Please don't take me home

Blame us 'cause we are who we are
Hate us 'cause you'll never get that far
And who'd suppose that you would go
I've already learned and I've already learned enough to know that...

  • Nicely done

but the correct second line is

or leave tonight and vanish up the shore

    instead of

Leave tonight and say the sun looks low

    Just in case :]

  • Listen to the song again...Do you really hear the word vanish after "Leave tonight and.."? "Say the sun looks low" is what I found on a lyrics site and it doesn't seem to make a lot of sense but what he's singing sounds way more like that then "Vanish up the shore."

  • BandNerdd is correct. The correct lyrics by better than ezra are "and vanish up the shore".

  • Yes, the lyrics as sung by Better Then Ezra are, but if you listen to Howie Day singing in this recording, he is not saying "vanish".

When singers do covers of other artists' music, sometimes (like in this song), they do change the occasional word/phrase. If anyone can tell me what for sure he's saying, I'll gladly change my lyrics, but he's NOT saying "vanish up the shore", unless he was heavily intoxicated before the show. ;)

  • Yes, because heavily altered radio & music video versions are so much better than the pure live voice & music. :/ Don't you have some Jonas Brothers vids to be catching up on over at radio Disney?

  • Howie Day is so amazing

  • i love to sing and play this.. thank you for posting

  • great guitar playing, it sounds gorgeous!

  • Better than Ezra's original version is much better.

  • he says sign the senders log, its a joke trying to get fans to sign up for email messages

  • I think hes a little drunk if u listen to his voice on the into his speech is a little slurred

  • ya howie is drunk and still a baller!

  • Try and listen to the original (Better Than Ezra - At The Stars) complete with nice guitar and orchestra. It is full of emotions...One of my favorite songs.

  • Better Than Ezra's "At The Stars" (original) is one of the best songs ever!!!

  • I think it needs to be said here that "At the stars" is not even Howie Day's song. He's just covering it here. The original is by Better Than Ezra.
