  • On 3ds max when i make a shape my Pivot point doesnt show.. what is the da command to unhide da pivot point.. i tryed pressin w or x but it doesnt wrk

  • in the video from 1:20 to about 1:30, we click on the hierarchy tool/tab, and then click affect pivot only button, so you can move the pivot

  • if that doesn't work, you can try to reset all your 3ds max settings:

    1. close 3ds max program

    2. deleting the 3dsmax.ini file

    3. run 3ds max application (if still don't work, try to restart your pc, then try to run 3ds max)

** Please back up the file before you delete it, just in case, something goes wrong

  • Thank you for making this video.

  • happy to help, and appreciate your thanks ^_^

  • do you know what would cause an object to get distorted when you rotate it?

  • please try to rotate using a simple primitive object like a box object, just to confirm that even simple objects like boxes cannot rotate without distortion.

if simple objects can rotate without distortion, but not the more complex object, then you may be selecting only part of the complex object for rotating

if only part (not all the vertices) of a complex object is selected, and then you rotate only these selected vertices, then your final overall object shape may look distorted

  • Ok it seems that this problem persists in more recent versions of 3dsmax. The pivot seems to become inflexible often after creating models derived from the subobjects of other models. To get your pivot editing ability back save the scene, open a new blank scene, go to import and select merge and merge all objects. This seems to reset max and means you dont have to make a backup because you can save the new scene under another incremental name.

    Works for me.

  • helped a lot! thanks!

  • I have a problem that I can't solve in MAX. Whenever I press "Affect Pivot Only" or "Affect object only" MAX automatically activates "Use Selection Center" instead of "Use Pivot point Center". When leave pivot adjusting panel I can choose whatever I want, but not while I'm adjusting the pivot. It's not fatal, because I can adjust pivot and THEN go to "Use Pivot Point Center", but it would be much easier to have this option on WHILE adjusting the pivot.

    Thank You in advance!

  • Thank you!!! :D

  • Thanks so much!

  • Thanks a lot man;)

  • Thanks, you explained exactly what I wanted to know, quick and simple.

  • Thanks

    (except for the annoying voice/accent)

  • Thanks a lot, very very helpful. It's basic stuff, but if you don't know it, it's quite a problem. Thanks again

  • Is there a way to fix the pivot point to my object? Basically I have an object set as a child. But when the parent rotates the child's pivot point does not rotate with the child. Instead it stays fixed at a 90* angle while the object is pointed like 120*
