CORAL GABLES, Fla. (WSVN) -- Officials are asking for calm while they investigate the stabbing death of a student at Coral Gables Sr. High School.
"To the parents I understand the tragedy, I understand the anguish that we are all feeling at this point," said Miami-Dade Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho, as he urged for patience while police keep students in school while they gather there evidence they need. "We are urging you to remain calm. Every single parent who has a child here at Coral Gables Sr. are under the watchful eye of teachers," he continued.
Miami-Dade Police said, soon after they arrived on the scene, they detained a student suspected of stabbing another student at the beginning of school Tuesday. "It was a little after 9 a.m. when an altercation occurred and a student produced a weapon," explained Miami-Dade Police Detective Alvaro Zabaleta.
The fight unfolded in the courtyard of the high school and left another student dead, at the scene. "At this preliminary point of the investigation, we can confirm that one of our children have passed away as a result of violence," said Miami-Dade Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho.
Though the school has been placed on lock down, it is not due to any threat against the students, but for the benefit of crime scene investigators. Carvalho said the students will stay in school and police have asked them to shut off their cell phones in order to keep the crime scene as clear as possible. "We are recommending that the parents let the school day go through," he said, noting students will most likely be released at the regular dismissal time of 2:30 p.m.
Officials have not released the identities of the parties involved in the fatal altercation. Meanwhile, they emphasize the students are safe, while police investigate.
Carvalho noted that they plan to establish a point for parents and students to be reunited at the end of the school day, and they will have health officials and grief counselors at the scene to help those traumatized by the tragedy. "The staging area is a very fluid situation," Carlvalho said. "At this point, there is an active investigation. We are getting details on the investigation from the Miami-Dade Police Department."
Officials agreed that they hope to notify the parents of the victim and suspect shortly

Its a shame how everyone resorts to violence for every little thing in the book nowadays. Whatever happened to actually getting an education in schools?
and all over a girl who probably doesn't even give a shit about either of them.
