The monophonic Mini-Korg 700S was an expanded version of Korg's first synthesizer, the Mini-Korg 700. It has that awesome "traveler" filter (12 dB highpass and lowpass), 2 VCOs (wavevorm of the VCO 2 is always sawtooth), 1 envelope generator and 1 LFO (sine wave only). It also has noise generator, ring modulator and the LFO can be switched to the filters.

The Korg 700s is a serious analog synthesizer with a lot of character. It has a fantastic sound, which can be only compared with the first generation Korgs (Korg 770, 800 DV). The parameters use unconventional terminology (singing level, expand, bright, and so on). The 700s has a very nice tone and it's easy to use. A pleasure to play and to hear. I love this synth!

The MiniKORG 700s was used by Vangelis, Kitaro, Human League, Daniel Miller and others.

I played the Minikorg with Lexicon MPX 500 reverb and Roland DEP-5 delay.

  • Hi is it just my ears or do the 700 & 700s sound slightly different?

I know it has the sub osc and ring mod but even if you turn these off do they sound exactly the same, just curious to hear your thoughts, great vids by the way:)

  • @youwantotestmykungfu Hi, indeed, the basic sound of 700 and 700s are a bit different. Mostly notable the sound of the filters.

  • I've got a 700s, and it is GREAT!

The 800DV was (I think) two 700 synths stitched together, so you get more oscillators (or a duophonic capability). The difference with the 700s however, was the modulator sounds - listen about 8:15 for example, or 8:55. You can't do that stuff without the ring-modulator, that both the 700 and 800DV lacked!

  • @maydaygalliard The 800DV has a ring modulator. The 800DV is not exactly 2x Korg700. It has different waveforms and it has suboscillators in addition. And don't forget the special "repeat" functions for the 2 voices. A great instrument, and I regret selling mine years ago.

  • This is a great video... as always!

One question though : Is it possible to turn off oscillator 2 (without ringmod) to get a thin lead like on the 700 model?

  • @Scories77 Yes, of course... with the BALANCE slider you can set it to your taste.

  • I'm sorry but these sounds make my soul cry. I'm on verge of tears.

  • I had one. Had years of fun with it. Animoog is my latest toy..

  • The sound of urban decay and alienation!

  • warm leatherette

  • @moxie96

    No,..not even close.

    I'm not knocking the MicroKorg,...but...

The MicroKorg is an analog modeling synth,..The MiniKorg 700S is a PURE ANALOG SYNTH.

Save your money on the MicroKorg, and save up a little more to get a Polysix or if you'd rather somethin' with analog modeling,..get an MS2000 or MS2000R /BR.

  • can you find these same kind of sounds in a MicroKorg model? It's what I'm saving up for soon.
