@SEdwardWilson We have to start sometime, in order to move towards a economy which isn't totally based on excessive consumerism. The alternative is spending money we don't have on things we don't need to suit a cultural tradition that doesn't make much sense.
You completely miss it. All the money that is being "saved" by families is going to charities. These charities will spend the money on food, water, etc. for the needy. The money still gets spent, just in a different way.
If I had one Christmas wish this year, it would be that people would unlearn Keynesian Economics, which Keynes, himself, admitted was wrong.
Are you kidding me??? Spend less will take away money needed in our economy - more small businesses will die, more job loss from those former businesses (not to mention job losses in big business), and our already economy that is near collapse and depression will reach that end - what are you thinking?
This year, why not focus on loving those close to you and helping those need?
