I forgot how much I loved this song. This poor woman went through so much, and then the media just want to give her more shit to sift through. Amazing singer/artist/woman.

A VERSION of this was written and recorded in the '80s by Courtney and Kat Bjelland's band. I'm presuming Courtney wrote the lyrics in all versions of it because the lyrics in the original one appear in her diary, and they don't sound like something Kat would write. Courtney is a better lyricist than Kat. This 1998 version of the song is almost entirely different except for the "put on my best Sunday dress" line. The melody is similar as well. Search "Best Sunday Dress" by the Pagan Babies.

ok one day many f#ckers will say:''she was an amazing artist''.no one really understands right now how important she is as an artist.her songs have so much meaning and merit.it's a pity they all remember her ''bad moments'' and not the good ones.and i talk as a nirvana fan if you mind.nirvana and hole taught me the value of music with truth and soul.

@BigBugBuzz yeah, he was cremated, then his daughter (francis bean cobain) scattered his ashes into the aberdeen river.

@xopioxn i agree. Listen to the album "pretty on the inside" and in one of the last song you can hear "best sunday dress" for 20 seconds. This album was signed by Hole but maybe the embryonic version is older

@theDaguerreotypist i always thought the "Pale Blue Eyes" lyric was referencing "Pale Blue Eyes" by Velvet Underground, often covered by Hole. Couryney likes to dick w/ the minds of ppl she thinks r "lesser" than her, shes very /subversive/. perhaps she gets off on ppl assuming "Kurt had blue eyes! awe she lubbed him!". this version is from the Celebrity Skin sessions, and that new refrain is sung terribly off-key in places. its interesting tlkin abt this.

@standingontruth1 suck on an egg. or an altar boy, whichever one floats yr boat (; do u need a psychiatrist? would u be institutionalized? Sigmond Freud died for yr schizophrenias and rose on the third day, prescription in hand, to rid u of the demons that plague yr better judgement.. SIGMOND SAVES!!!! (DOT) FUCK OFF!!

@hashfromplan9 the original version of this song had quite different lyrics, though... i can't say for sure but it sounds very kurt-oriented... with the "pale blue eyes so young" and iuno where the lyrics here were transcribed from but when she sang this song live; she usually sang "watching you burn out" or "watch and you burn out" (i can't tell) over the end which makes me think of kurt's neil young reference of "it's better to burn out than to fade away"... i could be wrong, though...

Dear Courtney Love, you are my inspiration in life. When i tell most people that, they never understand just for the simple reason they cant or will not understand the truth in your music. Your music sings to me and it is the closes thing I have to my mom.
Thank You for always being honest.

Courtney is so unbelievably gifted. If sit down and take apart her lyrics.....You'll find out how brilliant of an artist. So all the haters try to write a song better than this..I dare ya!!! I love you Courtney!!!
