quicktime tutorial: PIPs and Masks and Borders

1) open the main movie file.
2) select the portion of that file to which you want to add a PIP.
3) open the PIP file (this can be a still photo, a gif, a video or a text file saved in .mov format).
4) select all of the PIP, copy it.
5) go back to file A, choose EDIT -ADD TO SELECTION AND SCALE. this layers the pip onto the main movie.
6) Add a black and white mask to the mask well in the video properties window. NOTE: the photo for the PIP can be any size, but the mask itself MUST be the same size as your main movie file. !!!! If you use a full scale photo for the mask, it can ruin your whole movie, permanently (closing the movie with an oversize mask in it prevent the movie from being reopened). !!!
If you have trouble exporting, set the layers for tracks 2 and above, to -1.
I find that .png format works best for the mask.
7) open the movie properties box, and adjust the size and location on the screen where you want the pip to appear.

BORDER: Choose a picture for a border, open with quicktime. in movie properties window, change scale so the PIP is same size as the main movie. add mask to mask well.

when you are satisfied with the size and location of the PIP, SAVE AS or EXPORT to the format of your choice.
