Welcome to the Essentials of Living Aboard a Boat, hosted by fellow liveaboard Mark Nicholas. This series highlights issues associated with living aboard, as well as choosing a boat as well as a marina. I hope you find this helpful. Remember, be sure to check out Mark's Living Aboard Site: www.livingaboard.net for some great information, including Mark's book: The Essentials of Living Aboard a Boat.

  • OMG that was wonderful. I want to live like that.!!!!!!!!! How big a boat do you need?

  • @svberry if you check out "choosing a boat", i interview folks discussing that (among other things). I know of solo liveaboards living in 55' boats, and families in 26'ers. As a simple person, I am very comfortable in a small boat, but my family is far more complex and could never do that.

  • Thanks for your videos. I am the Cruisin' the 'net columnist for Living Aboard Magazine and have included your link in this months column. The column is 12 years old.

  • Much appreciated!

  • It's a great way to live, I'am on the upper Mississippi about 80 miles north of St. Louis, Mo. you have to be able to work on your boat & not spend money on mechanics every time there's a problem. Thanks for the video.

  • if i live on a 30 foot catamaran with no engines does it need to be registered i know it varies state to state so for simplicity lets say its your state ?

  • @elouwen - It is a bit old, but ironically most of the changes to the lifestyle have been on the convenience side, rather than the boating side of the equation. I just spent a couple of hours at West Marine and with your comment in mind paid attention to the current product lines - and they are pretty much the same. I'll update anyway soon, along with specific product reviews. Ready to go "live" again with the modern podcast.

  • @svberry Hi. I live in a 25 foot wooden boat. Not comfortable at all but now I couldn't live again in the city. I love it.

  • well done.

    i was raised on boats...

i have been a landlocked teacher for 22 years...

    i'm ready to move...

  • nice

  • you have inspired me......

I thought living on a boat was something people didn't really do and was something uncommon, but now I know there are others that love the sea as I do and would live as close as possible to it. Now I know I can acctualley have my dream to move onto a boat!!! thnx for uploading these videos :D

  • Hey man your living my dream!!

  • you can use a high vacuum and evaporate the sewage.. once it is dry burn it.

incinerate it. In fact separate the poop from the urine.

  • I am planning to retire and become a full time live aboard in 10-12 years.

I am thinking a 50' Gibson Houseboat would be ideal.

Somewhere on the Tennessee River, Northern Alabama???.

    These videos are great.
