Thanks again for making me feel like I have stepped back in time, visiting my dad's "TV shop" at Sears. He would have a number of TVs lining a wall all on at once, sets he had just repaired but were "cooking," as he said, to make sure his repairs took. To this day I associate "The Price Is Right" with that bank of sets "cooking" at my dad's shop.

Cool. I didn't know they had remote control back then.

Wow, what a beautiful picture. I love the look of these sets from the late 1960's and early 70's. This one reminds me of the set they had on "The Odd Couple". I would love to find a nice set like this. And i'd use it daily. Of course if it broke down it would be hard to find a local repair person who would even want to touch it. One small point. Don't get so technical when describing your sets. It just goes over my head and tends to get boring. Otherwise, i enjoyed it! Thanks

I never owned so old TV set, but the way they used to make remote controls is just blows my mind - motor-controlled knobs!!! ZOMFG AWESOME :D !!!
I wonder if remote control system from bad (broken too much, or useless etc) TV like that could be transformed into some kind of RC (or infrared) toy :)

Wow! When I was a kid we had a 1970 RCA color remote control console. We also had a 1960 Philco Miss America b/w 23'' console. I have searched you tube for both models for several years.

great picture and convergance. rca had a patent on this rare earth tube. I would save these tubes and put in other sets

there was a 1970s rca portable tv for about 5 $ is it worth buying

That happens regardless of your tv. I have a brand new sony 42 inch that does that. The 27 inch Zenith that it replaced did that as well.

There is one just like this sitting in my grandpa's barn! I'm going to get it out sometime.

a surprise waiting in a late 60s television at 4:58
Great demonstration...I really like this set! I have a similar model but it is a 22".
What type of battery does the remote really take? Mine has a AA cell in it but the remote control range is not very good...did it originally take a 4.5 volt battery?

This remote uses a single AA which is original by design. The AA fits into a special cardboard tube which is about 1/8" thick, in which to keep the battery centered in the holder as this remote was orignally designed to take the 4.5 volt battery which was larger in OD.
