Listen to interviews wiht Mr. Gibson he said the angels helped him make the film and he was "just following the bible" when he made it.

yeah you're right, that stuff in the movie didn't happen, but most likely, neither did the stuff in the bible,

and I didn't see "based on the bible" anywhere in the movie, it was an artistic and new take on mythology.

Lets see, The Bible does not have a meeting between Jesus and a sort of Satanic succubus figure in the Garden of Gethsemane, also there is no raven pecking out the eye of one of the crucified thieves, and Judas is not pursued to his suicide by a horde of supernatural and sinister devil-children. And the movie seeks to blame the death of jesus ENTIRELY on the Jews. Theres a good start. Not to mention Mel Gibson is a religious nut job.
