Glenn Beck's eye condition

SEATTLE - Conservative commentator Glenn Beck says he has been diagnosed with macular dystrophy, a progressive eye disorder that could cause him to go blind.

Speaking to an audience over the weekend, Beck, a Mount Vernon, Wash. native, talked about how he's been losing the ability to focus his eyes. He says he went to his doctor a couple of weeks ago.

"He did all kinds of tests and he said, 'you have macular dystrophy ...you could go blind in the next year. Or, you might not,'" said Beck.

Beck tearfully began talking about the things he looks at, like his wife and children, and that he loves to read, followed by joking about how he is too lazy to learn Braille.

Before making the announcement, the vocal opponent to Pres. Obama's health care reform set up his story saying "I went to the best doctor I could find, while I could still go to the best doctor I can find." The reported crowd of 6,000 in Salt Lake City laughed and applauded in approval.

You so right lovelylisa135. People have to wake up. I actually do want to be more educated. When I was in the public the school system, I was told for years that the reason I didn’t learn much is because I didn’t want to or I wasn’t into it. Well, with the watered down history lessons I got there, I guess I wasn’t. If history had been taught properly, I would have been captivated. I think Glen is right, somebody wants to detach us from our history. God bless you too.

@thoart1 nobody deserves to go blind. Politically, I am a centrist. So whether or not he was liberal or conservative doesn't really impact whether or not he will get macular dystrophy later in life. I cannot make the connection between somebody having a disease or an eye disorder with what opinion they had. That just either HAPPENS or is a residual result of bad life(style) choices, like excessive drinking, bad food choices, little exercise, or a genetic disorder, that actually caused it.

I lost my eyesight. Beck has time to learn braille and get used to living as a blind person if he loses his eyesight and he will be ok. I was sighted and lost my vision suddenly (injury) and the fact that I could see once helped out a lot but if I had time to prepare, the frustrations would have been much less.

I hope he does not go blind.

Rushtrdamus, Pretending that the bible isn’t true is a very big chance to take. People who claim they don’t believe in GOD are NOT offended as they claim, they’re scared and they should be. As far as Glen and Rush, nobody can know why they believe in God and still get sick, you never ever use another person to determine anything spiritual.
