@1stHokageSama I could agree with you if I was holding creativity as the highest form of artistic expression. I hold that as one facet of true talent. While he may be the most innovative guitarist ever that does not make him the greatest. I can agree with you on every point of your last post, but it doesn't prove he is the greatest, only that he was the most innovative. I would actually put him and Vai at the bottom of the short list for overall skill, while they would dominate creativity.

with the exception of steve vai i don't think Hendix has been surpassed in skill. I have still to see any one of the above pull of an amazing and original improvisation like Hendrix when he cuts lose. His woodstock improvisation of the star spangled banner is still unsurpassed in terms of creativity, artistic expression, technique and control of the guitar. Hendrix has given us some of the best guitar playing ever (and that holds still to this day).

Okay, so here is the deal. If all of these guys were Mayer's age he would no doubt hold his one . Mayer knows just as well as anybody that these guys are way beyond him. Buddy Guy is the greatest guitarist of all time, Clapton agrees. People that say Hendrix was the best just forget how young he died. Vai, Clapton, Guy, Paige, Emmanuel have all surpassed him in skill (if he would have lived past thirty it would have been different). Mayer has chops, and Clapton likes playing with him a lot!
