  • Zak, The 1 year old border collie I adopted in August is just a super animal. He's very submissive, affectionate and mellow and learns tricks very quickly. I notice that he gets quite excited when we're doing tricks and pants a little more than I would think his exertion merits. I've heard this is a sign of stress. Should I try to maintain more calm in the session to mediate this excitement. If yes, how do I reward him? His currency is praise. Or is the panting ok?

  • @hend6475 Praise is not an acceptable currency in and of itself. It's not powerful enough.

  • @zakgeorge21 do you think the prong collar is a good idea for my GSD ?

  • @hohohee1 No. True behavior is taught from the inside out, not through force.

  • @hohohee1 When dogs bite each other in there natural environment it is a way of communication. It is how a leader keeps the others in the pack in check, and it is how a mother shows her pups that they are not ready to wander on there own when she bites them in the neck and drags them back. This is dog psychiatry stuff but my point is that a prong collar is a good idea for any dog. Just use it in a proper and responsible way.

  • @gapalafox Guess what? WE are not dogs. We are better leaders and better communicators than other dogs. Therefore your logic is deeply flawed, unsubstantiated, and shallow (respectfully). Since dogs are domestic animals (unlike wolves) and were bred to perform human tasks on behalf of people, they are predisposed to understand human communication. While some want to cater to wolf ancestral influences, I find it more effective to extract the human influences of our dogs. Make sense folks?

  • @hohohee1 prong collar is never a good idea - can do more damage than it solves. try positive reinforcement (e.g. clicker training).

  • im not a fan of dog parks cuz its a place to start dog fights

  • That girl is my cousin Ashley and her dog is Blue and is usually at my aunts house when I go there. Blue is SO SWEET. hi zak! Hi Ashley!! -3 Kaylee Marie Burdette:)

  • who would kiss you now after you kissed a dog

  • @MoonyStorm yep :)

  • @MoonyStorm you don't have to be a dog freak... he mentions that he is a catahoula in the video.

  • @MoonyStorm he is definitely a catahoula leopard dog...

  • Indeed, this is defiantly like the English Pointer, Stella, my Pointer, has NEVER kissed me, she leans on my, stick her head up to me and shoves her head in my lap. But that about it But I fricken love her :P

  • haha omg he is just like my dog . he is a lab and WONT KISS me or anyone for nothing!! but he does show affection in many other different ways!!

    love him!!!

  • You've got another dog? o_O Who's blue them ? the greyhound you'r talking bout

  • Loved the vid, but thought I would point out that, as with any breed, some greyhounds are affectionate, "velcro" cuddle bugs, and others are less touchy-feely. My greyhound girl reminds me a lot of your border collies. She always wants to be on my lap, and frequently presses her head against me for scritches and kisses. She doesn't give kisses, but she's definitely a cuddle bug. I've seen greyhounds go both ways, so it really depends on the dog.

    Blue is beautiful, btw! :-)
