I like the extra soul poured into Aretha Franklin's version but I like this too, especially Labelle (Patti LaBelle, Nona Hendryx and Sarah Dash) on backing vocals.

@greanteawoman WOW, that is such great news to hear. What an overlooked talent, especially when you consider what junk they've already let in there!! I've often wondered why nobody nominated her many years ago when she was still around singing?? Strange. But, grateful to see her get her due! Yay.....

Hasn't anyone noticed that this is a direct steal of "There is no rose of such virtue" - a centuries old Christmas lyric and carol made famous by Benjamin Britten in his "Ceremony of Carols?"

The first version of this I ever heard was by a boxer named Cassius Clay ---- it was the ''B'' side of his promo record . around 1963/64 ?

Laura Nyro is being inducted in the RockHall! Can you believe this miracle? She is dancing on a star right about now. I love her music so ... One of my ALL TIME female vocalists and songwriters!

Nobody who covered her even came close to matching the brilliance of Laura's originals. But when she covered other Artists, she was right up there, toe to toe with the originals - THAT'S talent for ya! What an amazing one in a Zillion Artist!

One of the best versions of this song. It rivals Ben E. King's original.
