The Arduino's 16 KB of flash memory isn't big enough to store all of the 'poses' I'll need for the full animation I have in mind -- I had to refactor, streamline, etc just to squeeze the code in for this. It's now about as efficient as I can make it without losing a bunch of resolution, so I'm going to order a 32 KB EEPROM chip (or ten), which should take care of the memory problem.
