This is awesome. Great seeing both males AND females working on these cars. This is a fantastic deal these colleges and universities take part in. Schools (and I use this loosely) build these cars, schools prepare these cars, schools race these cars, and schools win with these cars. I even touched up on FSAE in one of my more recent videos. Lovely stuff!
The speeds really aren't that much higher look at any top a-mod car and see the huge wings on those things. When the speeds get very high in a event they have to take off elements to lower their aero drag.

Several teams race their vehicles in SSCA events. In these events, speeds are much higher, and downforce plays a bigger role.
